Hello David
Talented little guy – I'd like to see him in action on a real drum kit. If my mum was still around, she'd probably say he reminded her of me at that age – as a wannabe drummer, I was forever driving her mad pinching her saucepans and wooden spoons from the kitchen, and making a racket. Apart from the implements, there was another difference, though – he's much better than I ever was!
Joni Mitchell is a talented and influential musician, but in a genre that isn't really for me. And if you're open to an even later suggestion for 'grrl week', I heard a cover of Heart-Shaped Box by Evanescence on the radio the other night, and very good it was, too.
Love & best wishes

Hey Sammy,
Kids always like to play with kitchen utensils/gadgets more so thatn their own toys.
That reminds me of a joke:
Q: What do you call a person who hangs around musicians, but is not a groupie?
A: A drummer.
bada-BOOM!

Love Joni Mitchell, just about everything she's done. This one is especially good, IMHO. Many people get stuck with Clouds, which, while a good song/album, certainly is not completely representative of a career that sapns from 1968 to 2007, with something like 20 albums!
The depth and breadth of your music appreciation continues to make me envy you!
Peace <3

Jay- I do like to be elevated with nice comments, but I have to admit I don't know Joni Mitchell from Joan of Ark. The requests I get are from you guys, and often it's something I have never heard. Keep the requests coming!

I didn't even notice that you mentioned they were requests! HAHAHAHAHA

Yes, as an elder musician, I feel that it is my duty to elucidate the youngsters about the music that preceded them.
This Joni tune was my request.
Next week I will lecture here about this particular song, and it's significance to me (and there *will* be a quiz…lol!)
I am going to sunny FLA for 5 days, but for now I would urge “mes eleves” to Google “The Hissing of Summer Lawns,” study the lyrics, and be prepared to have a spirited discussion.
That is all for now.

That kid is awesome. When I lived in Bemidji as a kid, I would beat on our bar stools with wooden spoons. My mom was just glad it wasn't the metal pots. I needed something to do during the winter….
Joni, no really my thing. But she does have talent. I don't know if I'll be passing a quiz though…

Not to worry, Kev…no quiz due to lack of interest.
However, since Ms. Mitchell *is* one of the most influential singer/songwriters of the latter 20th century, I would urge anyone who is interested in singing/songwriting to check out her album samples on Amazon.com, and full songs on YouTube.
Also, http://www.jonimitchell.com/ is a *very* interesting/informative site.

Hi there, D_
The ten-year-old is amazing: I think there's a career in music waiting for him, if he wants it.
I'm afraid that the Joni Mitchell track doesn't appeal to me much. I think I might get on with it better by reading the lyrics as poetry.
Take care
Mark
