A Quick Message

Hi-

I just want to take a minute to thank the 8 of you who are reading my story. If there are more, I have no way of knowing. I don’t have a fancy stat tracker or anything. When I started this little experiment, I had no idea how it would go. The positive comments and support have helped keep me pushing forward. To be honest, I never expected it to be this long, and I’ve hardly even covered any ground!

As an untrained writer, I find that some days the words just flow freely from my hands, and other days I struggle to get my point across. I also find that I sometimes get very emotional reliving some of these events. So, some sections I am proud of, some, not to much. You’ll have to excuse me for the duds. Maybe some day I will rewrite this thing and clean it up.   Some sections I reread and edit, some I leave raw. I know I should pick one or the other in terms of style, but maybe by not doing so, you can get some insight into how I feel on the day I am writing. Does that make sense?  Good.

So, thank you all again from the very bottom of my heart. You guys are the best 😀

David

  1. Sorry I've not been commenting! I've been reading faithfully, though, and enjoying it. I have held off on commenting as I've not been sure what to say, as I find myself wanting to offer constructive criticism, but I'm not sure it would be welcome.

  2. Thanks for reading LB! I'm always open to critism, but I don't know if it'll change anything hehe! This has been more like therapy than anything else.

  3. This makes a lot of sense, David. I think you should be proud of each and every part you've written. Sure, the style varies a bit, but hey, writers are human, and you are writing a particularly human story. Let it flow as you feel when you write it.

Whether you choose to rewrite it or not, many of us will cherish this as your gift to us as your friends out here in the “cloud”. Pay attention to certain commenters, they are pros and are offering some great comments.

And everything you say here makes perfect sense. Knowing that you will keep writing means a lot, and I am glad you are getting what you need from it. It is cathartic, isn't it?

You are thanking us. You are welcome, David. Thank you.

    Peace <3

  4. Hi, D. I've really enjoyed reading your story. No duds so far! You have a natural talent for writing. I'm glad to hear you find it cathartic. It's a lot of work, but I find it to be a great creative outlet.

You probably have way more than eight readers! For every person who leaves a comment, there are many more who don't. And if you keep the site up and running, more and more people will stumble across it. It's impossible to measure your true reach, but your words could very well make a difference in someone else's life. Writing is a powerful tool.

If you'd like to expand your audience, you could post your story at fictionpress.com. That's actually where I started writing, and I got a lot of great feedback, which encouraged me to write my first novel. 🙂

    Keep up the good work!

  5. Hi David- I am very much enjoying your story. Reading it is a little gift I give myself after doing so much hard work (my own writing)!! Right now I have to go back and read the last two chapters as too much duty called me over the past days and I didn't have time to allow myself this enjoyment. I love reading your work because I enjoy seeing your raw talent show itself in the way you so naturally express yourself. I will get caught up tomorrow so please expect some slightly belated comments from Mia!!

  6. Hello David
Whatever sort of writer you are, the days when it comes easily, and the far more frequent days (for me, at least) when it doesn't are a common experience. The amount you've written, and its quality, suggest to me that you have a fair number of good days! I can relate to the emotional nature of writing this sort of fiction, too – I've only really written one strongly autobiographical story, a much shorter story than yours, and found it much more emotionally draining to write than almost any of the others. Having read your previous blogs, and knowing a little bit of the 'real' story, I'm not at all surprised that reliving those events would make you emotional. All in all, I'm finding your 'experiment' very enjoyable, and I'll certainly be here to read it as long as you feel its right for you to publish it.

    Love & best wishes

  7. Hello David,

I’ve probably been commenting too much, certainly too lengthily, but I am just so proud of you and so delighted to have a more detailed glimpse into Daniel’s life. If they bother you in any way please say so and I’ll tone them down or resist making them.

You are just doing so well with your writing! It just amazes me how you’ve progressed over the years I’ve been watching. I think you’ve got the brightest future possible. There are so many things you can do so well, so many ways you can express yourself to bring you joy, happiness, and a sense of accomplishment in your life.

I’m glad you are finding the writing to be beneficial to you at this time, I hope it continues to be that way. It’s certainly is brightening my life and I appreciate that. So please keep going as long as you find it a positive thing in your life. Your number of readers will grow as more and more discover you. Your skills will expand as you practice though you are already far ahead of most of us.

I will certainly enjoy watching you progress and I will delight in learning more of the details of Daniel's interesting life.

  8. I've yet to see a dud chapter. When you're writing from your heart, it's impossible to do wrong. You might not agree with it later, but it's how you felt at the time, which is how it should be. You've captivated an audience with your writing, so you must be doing something right!

  10. Hi there, David

I'm another one of your silent readers, I'm afraid. For the last few months I've been quite busy, so I haven't been on Blogger very much, and even when I have been around, I haven't been able to work what I want to say.

Anyway, I've had some quiet time this weekend, and I'm now up to date. I'm very impressed, both with your skill with words, and the fact that you're writing this at all – but if it's helping you come to terms with your past, that's good in itself, whether or not we read it. For me, I find that when I come to the end of a chapter, I want to know what happens next – it's very compelling writing.

I hope all is going well for you in your life outside blogland, and I look forward to the next chapters.

    Take care

    Mark
